The Meglepetés Énekegyüttes (in English Surprise Group) officialy was founded in December of 2002, but before this from December of 2001 we already worked together on some gigs.
In 2003, the choir was working on the developing a practicing the group's repertoire. In the next year we took part in an International Choir Festival in Sopron, and in the same year's october we participated in the Regional Choir Competition in Eger, where we got a gold qualification.
In the August of 2005 we took part in a choir festival in Gernyeszeg (in Transylvania). In October of this year we participated in the VI. International Choir Competition in Riva del Garda (Italy), where we got a silver diploma level IV, in the sacred music category. 2006 was a quite bad year for us, since two of us left the choir because of some familial reasons, and was very difficult to find someone to their place. But finally we could prepare to the next competition, what was the "Musica Sacra a Roma" Choir Competition, in July of 2007, in Rome. Here we got a silver diploma level III.
In November of 2008 we took part in the 25th International Franz-Schubert Choir Competition & Festival in Vienna, where we reached our best result so far, we got a silver diploma level IX.
Beside these big competitions we always have some performances in our hometown, in Nagykálló and some other places of our country (region). The choir has currently 8-9 members, the conductor is a young talent, called Rózsa Zoltán (Zoltán Rózsa). Our repertoire is not only based on the religious compositions, we sing madrigals, contemporary Hungarian composer's works and some pop re-makes too.
